Requesting Admin Consent for Apps in Microsoft 365
Requesting Admin Consent for Apps in Microsoft 365
Overview
You might encounter scenarios where you cannot grant consent to certain applications. This will occur when an application requires permissions that only an administrator can approve. In these cases, you can request admin consent through the built-in Microsoft 365 workflow.
Why Admin Consent is Required
Admin consent is needed when an application requests permissions that allow it to access sensitive information or perform actions on behalf of users across the organization. To protect data and ensure security, only tenant administrators can grant these permissions.
To request admin consent
Identify the Application Requiring Admin Consent
If you see a message stating "Need admin approval" when trying to use an application, it means the app requires permissions beyond what you can approve.

Request Admin Consent through the Built-In Workflow
On the consent request screen, click on the “Request approval” button. A request will be sent to members of the Enterprise App Reviewers group.
Provide Additional Information if prompted
You may be asked to provide a reason for why you need access to this application.
Await Admin Review
The admin team will review your request and, if approved, grant the necessary consent. You will receive a notification once the consent has been granted.

Retry Accessing the Application
Once an admin has granted consent, you can try accessing the application again.
Additional Tips
- Provide Clear Justification : When asked to provide a reason, be specific about how the application is intended to be used.
- Be Patient : Consent requests may take a day or two to process as the permissions the app is requiring need to be reviewed thoroughly.
