USB C Video Output and Dock Compatibility

USB C Video Output and Dock Compatibility

USB C Video Output:

  1. To support video output via USB C, the host device must support Power Delivery and DisplayPort Alt Mode or USB-C 3.1 (generation 1 or 2)
  2. To support 4K@60Hz, your laptop must support DisplayPort 1.4.
  1. Consider a USB Hub that connects via USB-A - You can have 4k video and use up to three monitors via USB-A
  2. USB C docks with Display Link technology can display video even if your device doesn't support video output via USB C
    1. Display Link technology will only support two outputs at 2k.
    2. Display Link hubs typically only support HDMI and DVI
    3. Display Link does NOT support Display Port or 4k.
  3. macOS and iPadOS only support Single-Stream Transport (SST) mode, which means all connected monitors will show the same content.
