AT&T Gateways - IP Configurations

Determine if there is a static IP address available

Verify if a static IP has been loaded to the AT&T gateway

AT&T does not always properly load the IP address to the modem or they may load different IP addresses than the ones provided to us prior to installation.
  1. Login to the AT&T gateway
  2. Navigate to Home Network -> Subnets & DHCP and look at the Public Subnet.
  3. If Public Subnet Mode is Off and the boxes are empty, then you DO NOT have Static IP addresses assigned to the gateway.
  4. If you DO have Static IP addresses, it will look like this:
    1. 1
  5. If the account/modem should have a static IP, open a support ticket to have the static IP addresses loaded onto the modem. For the time being, use the instructions directly below to use IP Passthrough to assign the dynamic IP.
  6. If there is public IP information loaded that is different or missing from the Linked Account, then update the notes section of the linked account and open a support ticket with AT&T/APEX to ensure we have the correct IP information on file and loaded on the modem

Manually Configuring a Static IP

  1. If you are going to staticly assign an IP address to the device then set the WAN port in Static Mode and assign it.
(Skip to the Advance Firewall Rules if you do this.)

IP Passthrough

We have made the decision to NOT use IP Passthrough mode on any gateway.  With the use of cloud managed firewalls, DDNS being about to get the public IP even though it is double-NATed, and the ability to be able to establish a VPN through a NAT session, this feature has become obsolete.

Use IP Passthrough to assign a Public IP to the firewall or router for accounts/modems that do not have a public IP.

This allows

  1. Remote access to the firewall
  2. IP monitoring of the firewall
  3. All traffic to be controlled by the firewall

This prevents

  1. Issues caused by double-NAT when not using a static IP
  2. Issues caused by the AT&T firewall rules

Steps to setup IP Passthrough

  1. Verify/Configure the WAN port in the firewall/router to be in DHCP Mode.
  2. Log in to the AT&T gateway
  3. IP Passthrough by going to Firewall -> IP Passthrough and then turn on Allocation Mode to Passthrough.
  4. You can choose DHCPS-Fixed, DHCPS-Dynamic, or Manual. In this example I used DHCPS-Fixed.
  5. Select the Device according to its MAC address from the Device List.

  6. Once you select the device, Save the settings.
  7. Refresh the DHCP address that is assigned by either unplugging the cable between the modem and firewall WAN port or by rebooting one of the devices.
  8. Navigate to Device -> Device List, and the firewall will show its IP assignment
    1.
  9. Navigate to Home Network -> Status, and you will see the IP Passthrough Public IP address from AT&T and that it is being assigned via Passthrough.
